Notes of my trampings

■42 days hiking from Pacific Ocean to Japan Sea

 -2 Sep. to 13 Oct. of 2014-

Hiking from one sea to another over the Japanese Alps. (①to② on the map below)

There are three major mountain ranges in Japan which are Southern, Central and Northern Japanese Alps. I walked from Pacific Ocean to Japan Sea through those Japanese Alps.

Some of the mountains are more than 3000m high (9800ft) and the weather is very changeable and harsh. But the nature is beautiful, needless to say, and Japanese mountains have long histories and unique cultures.

I hope some of you will come to Japan and wander in this breathtaking sceneries after reading my stories...

If you have any questions about my journals or some tips to hike in Japan, feel free to ask me.

An over view and some tips to hike in Japanese Alps

Please have a look here to grab a big picture of hiking in Japan. It's always exciting to travel and hike in a new place, but  at the same time, you might be fed up with looking for information. There are necessary information in this page. I hope it is helpful for you.

■Part1; Southern Japanese Alps (2 to 16 Sep.)

Started from Mochimune Beach in Shizuoka Prefecture on 2 Sep. towards Southern Japanese Alps.

Well, I underestimated how tough it was to walk on sealed roads for 80km before the mountain tracks.

■Part2; Central Japanese Alps, Ontake, Norikura(16 to 27 Sep.)

Had a little break in Komagane City after 11 days tramping through Southern Alps, and headed to Central Alps.

Central Alps are smaller but more rocky than Southern Alps.  I was moved by the overwhelming power of the towering white rocks.

■Part3; Northern Japanese Alps

(27 Sep. to 13 Oct.)

Arrived at the Northern Alps in the most beautiful time of the year, autumn. Finally, I saw the Japanese Sea over the beautifully colored leaves of birch woods and Japanese rowans.

42 days after the start, I got to Oyashirazu Beach.

■Te Araroa in New Zealand -26 Oct. 2016 to 19 Apr. 2017-
Walked through New Zealand's 3000km trail, Te Araroa, with my partner.
We won't forget all the beautiful scenery and people we saw on the trail.
